Our commitment
As a program, we are committed to addressing the inequities that limit who can participate in science, particularly practices that disproportionately affect people from under-represented and under-served communities. We believe that it is a shared responsibility of every member of the program -- its faculty, staff, and students -- to change the practices that contribute to inequities. To foster a more inclusive discipline for all, we are striving to diversify our faculty; develop a curriculum that acknowledges contributions by people with diverse identities; create inclusive classroom environments; provide equitable support and opportunities for students; and extend our teaching and research to under-served communities beyond the traditional classroom. We assess our progress towards achieving our goals by collecting feedback each year from students, faculty, and alumni, and using this feedback to guide our efforts.
